Crochet and Knit Blanket Size Calculator

Standard blanket sizes from baby to king, and how many stitches and rows each takes at your crochet or knitting gauge.

How this is calculated

Sizes follow the Sleep Foundation's blanket size guide; where it gives a range, the common size is used (a twin blanket is 65 to 66 inches wide, so 66). A bed blanket is larger than the mattress so it drapes over the sides.

The stitches across are the blanket width times your stitches per inch (your swatch count over 4 inches, divided by 4). For crochet, that is the number of stitches in the first row; the starting chain is usually that plus the turning chain your stitch needs. The rows are the length times your rows per inch.

Swatch in the yarn and stitch you will use, and wash and block the swatch the way you will treat the blanket, since many yarns grow or shrink.

Limits

Sizes vary between makers; check a bed's measurements if the fit matters. Borders add to the size. Stitch patterns with a repeat need the count rounded to a multiple of the repeat.
